Sentani, The Primitive Art Center.
Papua is the western half of the island of New Guinea. It is situated just 250 km’s to the north of Australia. West Papua also call as Irian Jaya or just Papua. Papua or Irian Jaya was occupied by Indonesia in May 1963.
Jayapura is the main of Papua. Beside Jayapura, Papua has Manokwari and Sorong as the biggest city in there. Many things make it different with other islands in Indonesia. We can see it from the culture, food, language and clothes. West Papua is home to the most ethnologically primitive cultures on Earth. No less than 25% of the world's languages are spoken here. Papua has 250 traditional languages. One of them is Sentani Language. It’s call “phuyakha afeu”. People in Sentani say good morning with “rene foi”.
Sentani Lake which located in under foot of Cycloops Mountain. Mountain unfolding from finite Kota Jayapura of Kabupaten Jayapura, Province Papua. There is a number of potencies nature purpose of holiday that is later is managed professionally to draw country tourist and also foreign tourist. You can see many crocodiles over there and you also can find some cork fish types.
Sentani society lived around Sentani Lake. Sentani Lake is a famous primitive arts centre. Bark paintings, sago bowls and small carved items are amongst the local handicrafts found here. Many of the Sentani people, who inhabit the islands, perimeter and environs of the lake, still have a traditional subsistence economy based on fishing and sago harvesting. This has been sustainable for centuries but local reports suggest that catch yields have diminished in recent years.
In general, Sentani Lake is beautiful place with area which still natural. And from this explanation too, we can know that Papua has many things that making it is different with other islands in Indonesia.
Nowadays as we know Sentani was grown too fast to be modern city. Some of the Sentani society have change their life style, we do not realize that in future we will lose properties of ancestor culture. Young man do not use Sentani Language anymore, they feel its not a modern life style...
Just think that we must back to our culture now or we will lose it in this generation.
We must proud with our culture...

no thought to how to change the culture to be liked someone else, but how to change people's perception that our culture is unique, and show them that we like and we are proud of our culture .. (^_^)
